Privacy Policy

Last updated October 19, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Valkyrja Labs (“Valkyrja Labs”, “we”, “us” or “our”) collects, uses and shares information about you when you use Skald, including our mobile application, our web application and skaldapp.com (together, the “Service”). It also describes the choices and rights available to you.

By using the Service, you acknowledge that you have read this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with it, please do not use the Service.

1. Information We Collect

Information you provide to us

  • Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and account identifier from Google. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and are never visible to us.
  • Profile information. Your Skald name, avatar and in-app preferences.
  • Content. The stories and lines you write, the Scrolls you start, drafts saved to your account, and any reports you submit about other players’ content.
  • Communications. Information you provide when you contact us for support.

Information collected automatically

  • Gameplay information. Your in-game balances, items, rewards and the Scrolls you have received, written or completed.
  • Device information. Device identifiers, including a push notification token and, on Android, the mobile advertising identifier; device type and operating system; and approximate location derived from your IP address.
  • Diagnostic information. Crash reports and performance data.

Information from third parties

  • Payment providers. When you make a purchase, Google Play or Stripe tells us what you purchased and whether the payment succeeded. We do not receive your full card details.
  • Advertising partners. When you watch a rewarded ad, our advertising partner confirms that the ad was completed so we can grant your reward.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • provide, operate and maintain the Service, including creating your account and passing Scrolls between players;
  • process purchases and subscriptions and grant in-game rewards;
  • send you service messages, such as password-reset emails, and push notifications you have enabled;
  • show optional rewarded advertisements;
  • review reports, enforce our Terms of Service, and detect and prevent fraud, abuse and security incidents;
  • diagnose problems and improve the Service; and
  • comply with our legal obligations.

3. Content Visible to Other Players

Skald is a shared storytelling game. When you write in a Scroll, the other players of that Scroll can see your Skald name, your avatar and what you have written. When a Scroll is completed, everyone who contributed to it can read the full story. We never show your email address to other players. Please do not include personal information in your writing.

4. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share information only as described below:

  • Service providers. We work with companies that provide services on our behalf, including cloud hosting, database and authentication providers (such as Google Firebase), payment processors (Google Play and Stripe), and email and website hosting providers. They may use your information only to provide those services to us.
  • Advertising partners. We use Google AdMob to show optional rewarded ads. See section 5.
  • Legal requirements. We may disclose information if required by law, or where we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property or safety of our players, the public or Valkyrja Labs.
  • Business transfers. If Valkyrja Labs is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction, subject to this Privacy Policy.

5. Advertising

Advertisements in Skald are optional and appear only when you choose to watch one in exchange for a reward. Subscribers to Bard do not see advertisements.

We use Google AdMob to serve these ads. Google and its partners may use your device’s advertising identifier and approximate location to serve ads, measure their performance and prevent fraud, and may personalise ads based on your activity in other apps and websites. To learn more, see How Google uses information from sites or apps that use its services.

Where required by law, including in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, we ask for your consent before ads use your personal data. You can reset your advertising identifier or opt out of personalised ads in your Android device settings, and learn more about interest-based advertising at aboutads.info.

6. Data Retention

We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. If you delete your account, we delete your personal information within 30 days, except where we must keep it to meet legal, tax or accounting obligations (for example, purchase records, which we keep for up to seven years), to resolve disputes or to enforce our agreements. Lines you contributed to shared Scrolls remain part of those stories but are no longer associated with your account. Backups are overwritten within 35 days.

7. Your Rights and Choices

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your personal information, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. You may also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

You can download a copy of your data in the app at any time: Profile, then Settings, then Download my data. You can delete your account there too, or follow the steps on our account deletion page. To exercise any other right, email us at support@skaldapp.com from the address associated with your account. We will respond within 30 days and may need to verify your identity. You can turn off push notifications at any time in the app or in your device settings.

8. Legal Bases for Processing (EEA and UK)

If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we process your personal information on the following legal bases: to perform our contract with you (providing the Service and processing purchases); with your consent (personalised advertising and push notifications); for our legitimate interests (keeping the Service safe, preventing fraud and improving the Service), where those interests are not overridden by your rights; and to comply with legal obligations.

9. Security

We use administrative, technical and physical safeguards designed to protect your information, including encryption in transit and at rest. However, no method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. International Data Transfers

Valkyrja Labs is based in the United States, and your information may be processed in the United States and other countries where our service providers operate. Where we transfer personal information from the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses.

11. Age Requirement

The Service is intended for people aged 16 and over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. If you believe that a person under 16 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it.

12. Notice to California and Other US State Residents

In the past 12 months we have collected the following categories of personal information: identifiers (such as email address and device identifiers), commercial information (purchase history), internet or other electronic network activity (gameplay and app interactions), approximate geolocation, and user-generated content. We collect this information for the purposes described in section 2 and disclose it to the categories of recipients described in section 4.

We do not sell personal information. Where personalised advertising through Google AdMob may be considered “sharing” for cross-context behavioural advertising, you can opt out by turning off personalised ads in your device settings or by contacting us. You have the right to know, access, correct and delete your personal information, and we will not discriminate against you for exercising these rights. You may use an authorised agent, and you may appeal any decision we make about your request by replying to our response.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above, and if the changes are material we will notify you in the app before they take effect.
